Default Garmin 4212 compatible Radars

I'm looking at a boat with dual Garmin 4212's but no radar. What Garmin radar's are compatible with this display? Looking at 4' array's.

I have the same plotters . My understanding is the 4212's were compatible with the original 404 gen radars. Since that time the XHD and XHD2 radars have come out. The XHD2 is the latest tech magnetron radar from Garmin. All of them are compatible with the 4212's but you won't be able to use the latest features like bird mode, echo trails, marpa, etc. I am not sure but don't think they are compatible with the broadband radar.

This winter I bought an XHD2 with the idea I would just use it as a basic radar with my 4212's. But then decided I wanted new plotters. So I upgraded to 7612's. In hindsight if I had known I was going to be pulling the trigger on new plotters I would probably have just gone all Furuno. Way cheaper but I'm committed now. Classic snowball.

So it worked on two networked 4212's? But the latest doesn't. I'd probably end up upgrading in a year too. Have to think about it long term.

All of them - except the Fantoms.

You just can't access some of the newer features. Garmin is very good about backwards compatibility.

this table will show you which xhd2 open array features will and will not work w/your 4212:

the big one IMO is the true color. pulse expansion is handy. bird mode, like with most if not all radars, is a gimmick.
