Default Auto Pilot, Radar which one?

Calling auto pilot experts!

Boat, Albemarle 265 Express, 1994, single Volvo Penta 7.4 (454) with DP 290 out drive, Hydraulic steer.

All of my current gear is Simrad. I may consider other brands but it would only be one more brand. Currently I have 2ea GO7's, one with total scan and the other with just a sonar transducer.

I would prefer a bundle deal but which one? I am totally new to it and it gets real confusing reading all the info on the various systems. I also like the idea of having the separate controller even though it states you can use the GO7 as the controller. If I go with a separate controller will it automatically set a heading based off the GPS destination that I feed into the GO7?

If I can get another brand and a third screen to control it all, that would be cool too.

What do I need, and what is convenience?

You just need the AP44 RF25 with RPU80 kit. I would link to it but not allowed.

After considering all the pricing points, should I go with another brand? Simrad seems to be more on the pricey side. What would you guys do with a 4,000.00 budget?

Raymarine looks to be the best priced deal but how does it perform to the other brands?

I have the full Simrad with AP and Radar. AP is 100 times more useful than radar, especially in South Florida. And, I'd stick to Simrad over going cheap.

You need a NSS Evo2, Evo3, GO7 XSR, GO9 or 12 XSE for radar. To save money you can skip the AP44 control panel and do the autopilot control from the MFD.

I wouldn't recommend this with a GO series display. The NSS has a dedicated Auto/Standby button that is really helpful. The GO series has no buttons. Buy an AP44 if you stick with Simrad.

Look at the AP44 VRF Medium Capacity Pack and then add a rudder reference sensor.

Raymarine's pilots are cheaper and include a controller. Performance is good on both brands. You'll likely need an EV-200 kit. Check your steering ram's oil capacity to be sure.

If you Buy an 9 inch or bigger Axiom or Axiom Pro and an autopilot or radar you get $500 mail in rebate. Expires Dec 15. Some vendors are giving away free RV-100 transom mount transducer with Axiom displays you can replace your TotalScan with. (does the transom mount work ok on your inboard engine? it's not usually recommended.)

Axiom 9 RV with Navionics, and an Autopilot with dedicated controller, transom mount transducer can be had for well under $3000 after rebate.

NAC-2 can use an external Auto / Standby button just like the NAC-1 based pilots so the lack of a dedicated autopilot button for GO XSE is not a problem.

Yes the total scan works with the inboard. A jack shaft connects the out-drive so the engine is several feet away.

I will check out axiom.

I'm leaning real hard toward this one for autopilot. Can anybody give me any feed back n this and, is it truly a package deal with nothing else needed?

https://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro...pilot&i=330783

This one for Radar.

Any feedback is welcome.

1. check that the pilot is appropriately sized for your boat. The EV-100 has a 0.5L pump only suitable for smaller boats. Find the oil capacity of your hydraulic sterring ram then use this chart to help http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=579

2. that a75 kit is way overpriced. You can buy an Axiom 9 and Quantum radar for about the same money, and then get $500 back. a75 has no fishfinder in it also.

Who makes your hydraulic steering? Buy their auto pilot pump, especially if it’s SeaStar or you’ll need adapters for the hydraulic lines.

Since you have 2 Go7 I’d save on the AP44 and put in a WR10 remote or if you want fixed put in the OP12
