Default 2 GO7's or 1 GO9?

Greetings. I'm wanting to replace my current electronics. I'm thinking I want to go with the Simrad GO7 or 9. My cop salary budget is limiting me to either getting one GO9 or 2 GO7. What way would y'all go? This is going on a Whaler 275 Conquest that is used 99% of the time in high mountain lakes with an occasional trip to the Left coast.

My preference is to go with the 9. Unless you always want to have split screens, there are times when you will be using a full screen chart or full screen sonar and having the bigger display is nice for that. If you don't need radar you can save a few bucks and get the lowrance version: Elite-Ti. This is nearly identical except can't use radar(neither can the GO7xse) Defender is blowing out Lowrance HDS Gen3 models as well. There are much talked about Garmin 840xs deals on here... You have a lot of options in very good but discontinued product right now to help get the best bang for your buck.

Twin GO7, the resolution on the 9 sucks. The only issue is that you will have to have 2 transducers or only use one dedicated for your sounder. The go7s don't have Ethernet so they use the nmea network to talk, this means you can't look at the transducer from one unit on the other. I'll be adding a second unit to mine. Now that I have the autopilot, it's just a bit too much on one 7" screen.

2 x 7” screens have more screen area than 1 x 9”.

I like to have 2 screens, apart from more screen area, it gives you redundancy.

I recently upgraded my electronics and now have 1 x GO7xse that I use for charts and engine data, and 1 x HDS7 gen3 that I use for sonar. I run a totalscan transducer. The units are networked together and to the engine via NMEA2000 so they can share basic data.

So if one unit were to fail, I can easily unplug the transducer and connect to the other unit, or move the navionics card between units. No dramas.

Go with Twin 7" Lowrance HDS Gen 3's. You can find them close the same price as a GO7, the biggest difference is you can link the HDS's together and HDS has touchscreen and buttons. The GO7's cannot be linked. (For example unit 'A' you flag a waypoint on the the chart, unit 'B' in chart mode will not recognize that saved waypoint. If they were linked the charts would become one and the same and recognize any changes made to either chart). I have a single GO7 and regret not going bigger, so was evaluating the same situation. If I could do over again I would go with the above. Also, with the HDS's you can run StructureScan and Chirp at the same time, which can't be achieved on the GO series.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Can any of the units y'all recommended also link with my vessel view? I would like to be able to view engine data as well. My radar is separate already and I don't plan on having that linked together.

Simrad GO7 will, as will Lowrance HDS.

I dont think you will get HDS7 gen 3 for same price as GO7xse. If you can, grab them!

I would suggest you find them on display where you can have a play with them both to see how you like them. I have and like both! LOL!

The Simrad tripintel function is very nice and something that is not available with HDS. With the vessel view hooked up it will be even better!

See this link for Simrad. If you google Lowrance vessel view you will find info there too.
