Default S1000 autopilot to Garmin 742xs

Iím needing help hooking up a Raymarine S1000 autopilot to a Garmin 742xs. Iíve done some research but itís turning confusing.
Garmin has told me the 742 will give a position to the autopilot but wonít follow a route.

Assuming you have cut off the DB9 connector you will need just two wires from the S1000, the orange and the blue wire.

From the Garmin 742xs connect the blue (+) output wire to the orange (+) input of the S1000. The black ground wire of the 742xs is a ground wire as well as the NMEA 0183 ground, so the S1000 blue (-) input will also be connected to ground.

You will also need to make sure the Garmin 742xs Comms port A is set to NMEA std., which sets the 742's output to NMEA 0183.

it should follow a manual made route. it won't follow the auto guidance. you need a Garmin pilot for that.

Team Ruby,
I completed the installation yesterday and it appears to be a success. The autopilot reports “too slow” as it should with the boat on the trailer.
I appreciate your help. My research didn’t reveal the attachment to ground and I wouldn’t have made the connection without your help.
