Default Need help connecting Ray Marine SmartPilot to new Garmin 1000 series chartplotter

I am replacing my old Garmin 2010 Chartplotter with a new Garmin 1040 XSV Chartplotter.

I have the new plotter powered up, but I am confused about the wiring to my Ray Marine SmartPilot S1000 Autopilot.

My old Garmin was connected to the Orange and the Blue wires to the autopilot.
The manual for the autopilot lists the Orange wire as "+ve in"
The manual for the autopilot lists the Blue wire as "-ve in". It appears that the blue wire was connected to ground.

My wire options for the new Garmin 1040 XSV are:

Blue (NMEA 0183 TXA)
Brown (NMEA 0183 RXA)
Gray (NMEA 0183 TXB)
Violet (NMEA 0183 RXB)
Orange (Accessory on)
Yellow (Alarm Low)

I am assuming that I only need to connect the Orange wire from the Ray Marine Autopiliot, since the blue wire to the autopilot is going to ground.

The questions is; which is the correct wire on the new Garmin to connect that wire to?

Thanks for any help!

garmin blue to pilot orange. TXA = out + which connects to in +

I would also connected the pilot out + to the garmin RXA. so you get heading on the plotter. especially if you have radar.

I attached the blue Garmin wire to the orange autopilot wire. First trip out today and I am getting the “No Pilot” on the autopilot remote. Any suggestions?

Any raymarine function has nothing to do with the Garmin connection. If your ray screen has issues then you must have knocked something lose on the ray wiring.

Normally no pilot on the ray screen means the pilot does not have power.

Ok, thanks. I did look at the main Ray Marine unit and the green light was lit. I’ll look again and see if I missed something.

I wanted to follow up. There was power to the autopilot but I kept getting the "No Pilot" reading on the autopilot remote.
I moved the remote actually touched the control unit for the autopilot and then started the remote. This time, it went from "No Pilot" to "standby" after about 5 seconds.
After that, the remote connected to the autopilot as normal.
When I took the boat out, the autopilot was receiving the signal from the new Garmin.and the autopilot worked normally!
Thanks for all the assistance!
