Default GSD26 question

I was looking at my GSD26 and noticed that it has 2 XID pins. The manual says you can use one or the other but does not mention if you can use both. Any idea why there are 2 XID pins?

Ok I have the R599LH and now installed a GT23M-TM. The idea is to have a wider beam for shallow water(100m) by connecting the GT23M instead of the High channel. The local Garmin installer made the connections but removed the XID from both ducers and entered the settings manually. It seems to be working fine however on the GT23M although it tracks the bottom very well, the fish echos are very weak.

So I was wondering if maybe it would be possible to connect both ducers with XID so hopefully I would get better returns.
