Default Radar vs Xm satellite antenna

Looking to add on to my 7610xsv and trying to figure out which on I want/need. Most of my boat usage will be 5-15 mile runs for family fun and slow cruising. Fishing wise I will be using it to make some decent runs from the Ms gulf coast so 25-90 miles offshore. This will be occasionally, might also go out of Venice occasionally. Very rarely will I be running in low visibility situations. Obviously the antenna is cheaper but I still have weather capabilities and music when offshore. And radar is radar.

If you are running that far offshore you need both.

Both. They are for very different things. Radar is for real time tactical weather avoidance and sat weather is for trends much further away than your radar can reach.

For example, with sat weather you can see the cells start to pop up throughout the day to know when you head home. Radar is for when you are running home to know to turn 20 degrees left to miss that shower ahead of you.

Exactly. Precisely. Concur 100%. Fished 40-80nm off Virginia Beach for 11 years, and now up to 70nm out in the GOM. Have had both radar and XM/Sirius WX the whole time and both are great.

For weather, if I had to pick just one, it would be the XM/Sirius. I can "see" storm cells, including their strength, direction & speed of movement, and lightning content long before I can see then on radar.
