Default Connecting Garmin GPS to SmartCraft Speedometer

Wondering if anyone has connected the SmartCraft Speedometer to Garmin GPS 182C using the NMEA 0183 connection. I have found these diagrams and it appears that you connect the black pin 2 of the Garmin to the SmartCraft blue wire and the Pin 3 of the Garmin to the SmartCraft blue wire.

Then there is probably some programing you have to do on the GPS and on the SmartCraft.

Any thoughts?

Well I no longer have smartcraft since I repowered with a ETEC G2 so I will not be able to verify. I went with an all new NEMA network Garmin GPS 1042xsv and the icon touch and icon round digital gauges to replace the smartcraft gauges. Sorry.
