Default Raymarine axiom pro vs simrad nss evo 2/3

I currently have a raymarine e127 12". I am thinking about upgrading. I am wanting two mfds, radar and auto pilot. I want to use one screen for chart plotter and radar. The other screen for 3D scan, side vision and down vision. Not sure if they will be 9" or 12" screens yet. Want knob not just touch screen. Mainly will be used for wreck fishing in 200' or less and for trolling out to the Washington canyons on good days. Will be going on a mako 234 with 300 verado. So which one guys simrad nss Evo 2 or 3 or raymarine axiom pro??

Much better off posting this in the Electronics forum or have the Mods move it there.

Get more responses.

I'm not sure how to move it if a mod will move it that would be great!

See the little red Triangle with the ! inside of it under your name?

You click on that to send a message for the mods to move it.

I already messaged them

If you buy two axiom pros, a radar, and an autopilot, you'll get $1000 rebate from Raymarine. Both are very capable and similar systems. The Ray's 3D sonar is much cheaper than Simrads. Did you have a transducer in mind? They both can use Airmar Chirp models.

Axiom Pro was rushed to the market, functionality is missing and the software is buggy. Raymarine had the same story with the regular Axiom series. I'm sure they will get it sorted out, but when is the question is when.

Honestly I haven't decided or thought about transducers. What difference will I see with a through hull vs the transom mount? I am new to salt water so all I know is transom mount transducers.

When you say raymarine sonar is cheaper do you mean the quality or the price? From the small amount of research I've done on simrad the seem alittle less than raymarine price wise

Being as I have the raymarine axiom units on my boat, I can only speak for and recommend them. With the latest software updates from raymarine for the axiom / axiom pro units, I am more than happy with the function of my units. The chirp sonar, down/side imaging, gps, and the new 3D imaging are top notch. The user interface is very user friendly, the screen quality is excellent and the processor is fast. Also, with the latest software updates, I am able to fully get the most out of my gps using my chart card (sonar chart live, auto routing, etc...). Great value and unit! Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information sounds like they got the Bugs worked out! It's just like my e127 when I first got the boat it hadn't been updated since 2011 5.2 software, since I installed the I believe 19.3 software it's a really good unit, just wanting more sonar options is why I want to upgrade. Are you able to run side vision, down vision, chirp and, 3d vision at the same time off of one screen? Also how many transducers do you have to run with all the different sonars on your boat? Lastly what type of transducer or transducers are you running?
Also what type of fishing do you usually do, and what type of sonar of the 4 do you like best?

Since you have a Verado, Simrad will offer use of the Vessel View Link module. It allows Vessel View capabilities on compatible Navico products. Navico now manufactures the entire Vessel View lineup for Mercury.

Also, if your budget allows, I’d choose the Evo3. Many articles and videos available that will discuss the difference between Evo2 and Evo3.

I meant the 3D sonar is cheaper to add on Raymarine than Simrad. Simrad requires an external sounder module and transducer which cost $1000. The Raymarine requires no additional sonar module and a $400 transducer. I'd look into a B75 or B175 M for your traditional sonar, the raymarine will also have the High chirp in the transom mount for shallower waters.

The differences between the evo2 and evo3 is mostly the screen which is much brighter and viewable at a greater angle on the evo3. On the evo2 the screen will get dark as you step to the side of the display. The evo3 will allow you to chirp two seperate transducers at the same time while the evo2 will only chirp a single transducer.

Thanks guys for all the info! I'm gonna try to get out and go look at the demo models at the dealer and see which one I like better and go from there. I appreciate it! I am leaning towards the raymarine though right now.

Hi Nate,

Did you make a decision? I'm going through the same decision making process right now. Thinking of an Axiom 12 and raymarine i70 vs using Simrad Evo. The 3d sonar being cheaper is my primary reason for leaning towards Axiom. Would love to know what your final decision is and if you're satisfied with it.

I went to West Marine to check out the Simrad units and I personally think the screen looks nicer and brighter so it's a tough decision

Does anyone else think it would be nice if the Axiom Pro could also control the Axiom?
This way you have the Pro in front of you and the regular Axiom on the right. And you don’t have to reach for the controls.

They are compatible.

I see a ton of Axiom Pro's, ie a 12" Pro RVX, being connected to 9" Axiom in the rear of boats out here in the PNW.

I decided to hold off awhile and save some more money. When I get ready I am seriously thinking about doing 2 16" evo2 or 3's then I could remove my mercury vessel view 7 and my run vessel view it split screen with the chart on the other side since mercury and simrad are compatible

Or I'm gonna get a 9" axiom pro and a 12" axiom pro then relocate my vessel view 7 below the 9" axiom pro. I may just get axioms and not the pro's if the Demo's at the store work good when I wet my fingers with water lol.

I can only talk from my experience.Just removed two TZT2 with a DFF3 with A B260 and a B175H. I Replaced everything with a Axiom pro16 RVX and a Axiom Pro 9S...There is a few things to work out with the system..but not much. I was told by Raymarine there is going to be a large software upgrade soon.I had a Quantum radar and evolution pilot, now everything is integrated. I can honestly say the Axiom Pro with the internal sounder for a Airmar transducer is very, very good.I've got 5 different sonars to choose from. The install was WAY easier. No black boxes. The displays are slim in the back .The displays are very fast and very easy to use. I've had 6 trips(100 miles a trip offshore)with the new system.Could not be happier. The resolution on the 16 is amazing.Capt.Mike
