Default Garmin update v. 10.0

Just released yesterday. Coincidentally, also the day I put the boat into storage.

Who's going to be first to try it?

Maybe one of these days Garmin will release updates for their products that can be done using a Mac. This Windows only garbage is silly.

I never put firmware updates in until others have tried, and experienced the joy that comes with a bad update. Not using the boat until May or June, plus my 741XS appears to not have an update.

I've only been burned once, but the fix didn't come quickly.

I'm more fearful of "dot O" versions like this one than I am the more incremental updates.

Appears to be a pretty substantial update from the change history. I usually wait about 3-4 weeks before I install a xx.00 version just to make sure I don't brick my units. Let me know how it goes for all you early adopters!

Just in time for FLIBS I am sure this will be a good one, they wouldn't release one that didn't work well when they will demoing it constantly over the next week.

Active Captain has been integrated into Bluechart Mobile (iOS) for a long time.

If I'm reading it correctly, there's no update for the older GPSMAP products such as my 1040xs and 741xs. Is this the beginning of the end for support for these products or is Garmin saying that there aren't any issues with the software on them (good sign that the current software is working correctly)?

Or am I just reading too much into this?

while that Garmin Windows self-extracting zipped file will not run on OS X,

you can still download it to your Mac and unpack it -

a Google search will turn up several free apps for OS X which can extract the files within that .exe shell

then you manually move the decompressed files to SD card for the Garmin.

I tried several times to use these methods and never once have they turned out to be a positive experience. I had to use a friends Windows comp to do the update.

A huge company like Garmin and they can't or won't have the software people make the update compatible with a Mac. What possible reason could they give to make any sense of this?

It's time to turn awaay from the dark side. See the light, see the light coming through the windows.... shun the darkness, shun the stupid connectors and lack of headphone jack. Shun the overly expensive price tag....
