Default Sonar help

Ok guys. I've asked questions and done my own research but I just can't seem to grasp sonar and which technologies are used for what. I'm really frustrated since I can't find my the answers which is probably because I don't even know the right questions to ask.

I have heard some sonar can be live where you can see fish actually moving towards baits and that seems valuable.

We do some wreck and reef fishing but our passion is inshore and mostly Tarpon fishing. We anchor and chum threadfins off the back of the boat. Is there a sonar that will allow us to see tarpon coming into our chum? How great would it be to see fish coming into our slick before they get to us or our baits!

We also drift a lot so we'd like to be able to see fish and structure off to the sides.

If you mark fish to the sides can you tell their depth?

I guess forward sonar has to have a separate transducer on your trolling motor which we love but not sure how practical that would be?

Anyway if anyone can help or give us suggestions on what they like and how they use it that would be great too!

Sorry for the newbie HELP thread but I'm just plan lost and planning on spending some serious money on electronics and want to get it right

Thanks!

Nick

Thank you that's really cool technology but I generally fish shallower water.

Then you have the Navico,Garmin and Raymarine 3D units that are for shallow water use.
