I am thinking about giving myself a hand held VHF for Christmas and saw this advertisement at West Marine. Does anyone have one of these and how do they hold up? I already have a Standard Horizon mounted to my boat just wanting a backup for safety measures and we use VHF hand helds when deer hunting. Thanks for any feedback.

skeeter, don't have firsthand knowledge but when I saw it in the store I thought "Uniden"...but I could be wrong...If it were me I'd fork over another $20-$30 and go with a known winner like a Standard Horizon HX260S (I have this one) or Icom IC-M2A.

I recently bought one and so far it has worked great. It looks to me like it is manufacutured by standard horizon. The only thing I do not like is that the squelch does not have a nob but is adjusted in discrete steps with the key pad.

Thanks,

I just realized that I can get an ICOM for about the same price after rebate.I like the IMC2A and it is in the price range that I was willing to spend on one.
