Default Rail clamp VHF mount suitable for 8' Galaxy antenna?

Hey. If things go well, I'll be bringing home a freshwater (read: blank slate) boat back to So Cal to turn to the dark side--saltwater. She has no radio, and the plan is to eventually get a radar arch as I cast too much for t tops. In the interim, I need to get a radio. Probably going to go with the Icom M400BB black box and just have the Commandmic show, like on my last boat.

My question is, will a rail VHF antenna mount like a Shakespeare 4190 have enough grabbing power to hold an 8' Galaxy antenna? That is one heavy, stiff antenna. I've installed and matched maybe 15 of them and have never had a complaint. The boat is a relatively stable Robalo R180, but it will do some pounding here and there. I may get the radar arch (with a proper antenna mount) later this year as I pimp out the new boat.

Please don't do the "but the Digital 529 is better" thing.

Thanks

Yes, but the rail will flex. I would worry less about the mount than what it is clamped to. I would just use a smaller antenna

Ya, I was wondering about transferring the load to the windshield grab rail. I suppose a 4 footer could get me by. Looks like I'm gonna miss the offshore bite this year, so my trips will keep me inshore or to to Catalina Island.

What's the hot tip for a throw away 4 footer?

What's the hot tip for a mid end 4 footer?
