Default Go9 xse Fish finder performance

Hi, after months of thought and research, I'm thinking of upgrading to a Go9 xse on my little bay boat.

My current fish finder is a garmin stryker 7 with a gt-52 hw transducer. (I run a second samyung plotter/sounder for navigation)

Side scan performance is good for up to thirty feet, usable to fifty and unhelpful beyond that.

Traditional and downscan chirp performance is good to over 100', depending on conditions.

Two questions:-

1. Is the touchscreen and the unit fairly robust or especially vulnerable? I drive a small open boat with a canopy so the odd splash is inevitable. (I've used lowrance, garmin and samyung units over the years in similar or worst conditions with no issues.)

2. Is it reasonable for me to expect improved fish finder performance compared to my current budget garmin?

Thanks.

I think this will be a worthwhile upgrade for sure.

I upgraded from a Garmin 545 to a Go7 and I'm very happy. It's a great unit.

Thanks guys! Really looking forward to installing the Go9 and putting it through its paces! If only my budget allowed me to add the radar now too!

Bait Tank, I used to run a Elite 5 (non CHIRP)... The CHIRP on the Garmin stryker was like day and night! coupled with Sidescan, I could really see the difference and immediately started catching more and bigger fish more consistently! Hoping to see the same performance jump with this purchase!

I cant comment on the garmin, but using the go9 med chirp split with 455 downscan, the results are ridiculous. I see schools of fish the lowrance elite 5 didn't pick up (non chirp). It actually shows fish separation on the bottom 80ft water. you can see the bigger and smaller fish in the school and water column. Typjcally results in stuffed cooler filling freezer for winter that is coming.

Glad to see these responses! I just received a Go7xse with Totalscan transducer.
Now to figure out how to set up the NMEA 2000 backbone, Yamaha-Lowrance interface, and the unit/transducer itself! ;?

I just installed the GO7 on my 1973 aquasport, first piece of electronics ever. Its a really clean looking unit no buttons all touch. Tested it out sunday worked great. Cant wait to get over some reefs and see what it can really do. For 649$ total package I thought it was the best bang for the buck.
