Default Airmar M422 shoot thru transducer?

Anyone try one of these new M422 transducers?

I currently have a Garmin 7612 with a GT51 transducer. I've been pleased with it's performance, but keep reading that a narrow cone angle would be better for finding ledges and grouper holes in live bottom.

I was thinking about picking up a non chirp M260 as I'd prefer not to drill a hole through the bottom of my boat, but came across these new Airmar in hulls.

Would the M422 be a good alternative to an M260? It's 8 pin so I assume it would work in conjunction with the GT51?
