Default large single or duals Simrad? EVO2 or EVO3?

I am about to place an order for my new boat. Seahunt BX25BR with a custom tower and I am having a tough time making a decision on my electronics package.

Currently I have a single 12" EVO2 and it works for what I am doing. I spend about 50% of my time inshore and 50% of my time up to 20 miles offshore.

I do not currently run radar just Sirius weather and I do not intend to purchase radar on my new boat.

My options are as follows: Single 16" reman. Dual 9's or a single 12 again. I will be putting a 7" in the tower.

Will the dual 9's give me more screen size than my single 12 if one is set to chart and one is set to sonar?

And is the evo3 worth the extra $$$

Single 16" Evo3 or dual 9" Evo 3 would be my choice. Dual 9s should be about $1k cheaper than a single 16. The new Solarmax screen and built-in dual channel CHIRP make the Evo 3 worth it to me.

I have no issues with display on my current evo2 and chirp is not a huge benefit in the gulf. I am mainly looking for hard bottom when I am offshore and rarely fish in depths greater than 70'

The screen on the EVO3 vs Evo2 is a night and day difference. You have to see it to understand.

NSS9 Evo3 has 1280x720 resolution, this is a huge step up from Evo2 with 800x480.

NSS16 Evo3 or 2 x NSS9 Evo3 would be my preference.

The EVO 3 produces a slightly richer picture with more color saturation. I'm not sure it's worth the approx $800 more in price for this for a 12" but it is what it is. To my eye, the EVO 3 is clearly better but it's not that big of a deal and if the budget was any concern I would be very happy with the EVO2. In terms of screen brightness and viewing in sun, I find no advantage to either in actual use on the water. I see both equally well with polarized glasses in bright sun and have run both for many hours on the water.

evo 2 16" screens were particularly lackluster...I would avoid it unless you can get your own eyes on one before buying

I love my Evo2 12. Color is just fine. That being said I also have an NSS8 which I dont even look at anymore, but it is there just in case something goes wrong with the 12. I would definitely go for a 16 and you dont need a second screen other than as backup.

I bought reman 12 EVO2 and you can get a 2nd or 3rd year warranty for about $90.00 per year from Simrad (I did) and that resolves the only 1 year that comes with reman

Good luck!

If you want more actual screen shots of the difference between the units I can email them to you.
Here is what the difference actually looks like on high quality imagery. You can judge for yourself if the difference is worth $800. Obviously there are some other differences between the units besides the screen. The sonar is better too but to me the difference is about the same as what I see in these photos.

Go with dual just for redundancy. Get them set up so one does depth and the other does navigation. But make sure one can do both jobs if the other is not present.

All depends on what you want you will get many different opinions. If it was me, I would do a reman 16 below and a 7 above. Depending on if you are going to add autopilot etc or anything later? And how you want the layout of your console to work for you. Good luck and let us know how we can help.
