Default Old electronics, Replace with what brand

The boat is a 1997 Bayliner, 38 footer with upper and lower helm. The existing electronic are Raytheon, on upper helm and a Lowrance m68 on lower helm. It will be a family boat, with some fishing in the bays and a trip now and than into the Gulf for snapper etc.

I assume the equipment was original with the boat, since besides the standard vertical mount there are 2 displays, built into the dash with buttons like speed, trip, depth, off set and alarm. So will probably need to replace all.

Two helms, equal presentations. Garmin uses proprietatary software whereas the others can make use of software like Navionics etc. Should that be a consideration. About a 10 inch screen will suffice. Don't need touch screen, cost is a consideration. Don't know much about the electronics but guess it should include "Chirp". Don't need it for other read outs like engine information. Thinking standard
GPS, Chartplotter, fishfinder, and auto pilot. Boat has radar now, not working, but Radar not a big item but furture addition capability would be a consideration.

What would you buy? Thanks

I agree and would also say Garmin. For your boat and your application my opinion is Garmin is the best.

You didn't miss anything, it was a 4 year old unit that's been replaced by the 1042/1242!

Look into the new Axiom units by Raymarine. I've been running mine for a month now and love it. Great chirp sonar, down/side vision as well as the new 3D sonar. Unbelievable. Great clarity, user friendly interface to go along with the fast processor. Holds up nice. You will also have the use of the navionics charts as well. I've been running the platinum+ in mine for the saltwater environment that I fish. nav charts, sonar charts (1ft contours), 3d views, satellite imagery overlay, etc... Sweet setup.

I have both the 1242 xsv and 942xs. I tell you the 942xs is a nice sizeable unit. I nearly went with two of those.
