Default Garmin 2010 vs 3010 vs 3210

Is there any real differences between the 2010 and the 3010/3210 other than the 3010/3210 can be used with a radar?

I'm wanting to use my 3210 stand alone with my radar and use another 2010/3010 as a chartplotter, the 2010 series are quite a bit less expensive.

I think I would go with a 3210 and add a GMS 10 port expander. This would allow you to run the radar on either MFD and the same for depth if you're running a GSD 20.

I've got a Furuno 585 for the bottom machine, I currently have my radar connected to the chart plotter. I'd like to have a stand alone radar screen. Too much clutter with all the waypoints on the radar screen, easy to overlook an object when it's covered by a waypoint name/number.

The mapping for the 2xxx and 3xxx MFD's is really old now. So if looking for a stand alone chartplotter look for a used more recent model with an SD card so you can get some updated maps. Many used MFD's at very reasonable costs as many have updated to the latest and greatest.

I'm pretty sure charts are not available anymore for those old units. Even if Garmin has stock, they will have old data on them. You definitely want to look for a newer unit, at least 4000 series or newer.

The 3210 comes pre-loaded with maps. The 3010 doesn't so you need a card. Even though it's an old unit it's a good and reliable unit. Had one on my old boat and it worked flawlessly.

I had a good 4212, didn't like the way it operated. Sold it and still love the 3010/3210 system. Does anything I need, don't have to learn a new system.

I have two 3210's on my boat ... upper and lower. They are dated for sure but still work fine for me. Like you I would like to add another station at the lower helm as that tends to be where I run from in the fog. But... between the two MFDs and other stuff (radar, XM, sounder) I am out of ports on my port expander.

Was thinking that adding a 4210 might do it because that unit has two network ports...
