Default Sticker Shock: Digital VHF Antenna Extension

Went to buy a 4' Digital brand antenna mast, and saw that MSRP was $209!!!
This was to replace a DIY extension, for a more "finished" look.

Discounts are available, but still overpriced for a fiberglass tube with nothing inside it. Actually, at discount, more than I paid for Digital 4' antenna itself, from a THT-member yacht builder, a member here who was selling on eBay...antenna was new-old-stock, with 100' of coax...think I paid $45. Seller had dozens he was liquidating...sold-out in hours.

If you were to buy that shipped to Hawaii, they would tack on another $80.

Alaska is same way...I shipped a full case of .38+P Nyclad ammo to a guy there and shipping almost doubled his cost, and did not even include home delivery...he had to take a ferry to a mail-drop company...but, it was a rare, discontinued product, probably 45# shipping weight.
Lots of items state "free shipping, to lower 48..." Your cost-of-living must be high, but, maybe worth it?

Anyhow, still think Digital's price for a 4' hollow tube is absurd, but my DIY version just looked so DIY...found a dealer selling item for $109, a little better, but have not ordered yet. When assembled with 4' antenna, should look like a regular 8-footer, but, first low bridge and with approaching senility ;?, both are history.

Why not buy a Shakespeare 4' extension that I believe will work just as well for about $72 or maybe less?
Both have 1"/ 14 =-pitch threads.

Wasn't aware, and would like finish and color to be an exact match, but, will compare.
Thanks-either will be an aesthetic improvement on my DIY aluminum tubing mast, but being a ham for 50+ years, old habits die hard.

BTW, your comments are generally 100% "on the money"...TT.
