Default Need to upgrade electronics

I bought my first boat in April. Dealer thought I would be more than happy with a Lowrance Hook 7 and since I already had my budget maxed out and didn't know better, I thought it was good enough. WRONG! I constantly rely on my iPad with navionics because the chart on the Hook 7 has me on land or 25-100 yards from where I know I just went. Crumb trails are absolutely useless and we have a lot of shallow water. My transducer seems to be mounted correctly from what I've learned on here but I still loose bottom several times each trip. Starts flashing 1-2'. Turn it off and back on, and it goes back to working most of the time.

I think I know the answer, but is there any point in me adding navionics to this Hook 7 or should I just count my losses and upgrade. What's my options for $1000-1500? Do I really need to spend $2000+? Guess I need to go at least 9" so I can cover my existing hole. I want great charting and reliable depth. Fish finding capabilities are second. Being new, it would just give me more confidence knowing that I could trust my chartplotter. Should I stay with lowrance and keep this transducer or go all new.

No offense, Lowrance is junk. I had a Lowrance unit and it was a waste of time. Look on EBay, buy used. There are great units out there for cheap

If you like the Navionics on your iPad, why not add the charts to the Hook? If you want better sonar performance, try finding a better transducer. I am pretty sure they came with the 83/200 skimmer, which is junk. That would be your least expensive way to go.

I was worried that with the navionics charts, the accuracy would be off just as much as it is now or it may not load fast enough with more detail on the chart? But I really don't know.

Hey, you aren't offending me! I'm pretty sure I'm coming to the same conclusion at least on the Hook series.

The Simrad Go9 and Totalscan sounds about right for you and its very reasonable.

I'm not saying buy it here or not, (easy to search on their site) but would these units be a good upgrade from where I'm at? Which one do you like better? I'd really like to stay with Navionics because it's easy for me to study the area at home and then directly relate when I get on the boat.

I have never recommended Hook because it's based on old technology, but units like Lowrance HDS Gen3 and HDS Carbon are among the best you can get. I've had 9 or 10 different HDS units of different sizes and generations on two boats since 2009 without any failures and with very good performance.
