Default Garmin Radar - 18HD+ vs 18xHD

Going to add an 18" radar unit to my 21 Tidewater.
I am running a Garmin 840XS 8" Chartplotter as the single display.
From what I can tell the only difference between the 18HD+ and 18xHD is the dual range and no transmit zone functions? The specs on both show 4kw output and 8 color display.
I have the dual range on my big boat with twin 12" screens, and while it is great, it requires essentially a dedicated screen to accommodate the split for the dual range - not an issue when I can use my other 12" screen for the chartplotter/fishfinder/weather.
With a single 8" the dual range won't be usable, and it being at a height of 7' off the water range isn't to important either.
The 18HD+ can be had for $1,020 and the 18xHD is $1,325 - any reason to spend the extra money?

I have used both and I feel the xHD does have greater maximum range capability.

Both will be fine for close in requirements.
