Default SEA156 Radio Experiences

I have had a few of these on the boat as the membrane touch pads cooked out. Interested in the experiences of range.

I have another new radio in the tower and i have to say the range at no noise squelch seems far superior. The SEA156 is loud and clear but it seems once you go to quiet squelch at 03 setting the range drops and no happy medium.. any others experience the same?, as i my dump it and get another gx1700.

you see SEA them all the time on big boats and deadliest catch, but when i monitor 72 i want range; the horizon beats it hand down. i swapped antenna to the two and didn't get any better, so i don't think it is the antenna.

That is called "threshold squelch break". It SHOULD be a very low number, like .5uV. Time for a bench test for your radio. Very easy/fast measurement with a calibrated sig gen.

Sea Marine is still in business but way behind the times (manuals not online). They do answer their phones promptly.

I would call and ask them
