Default Simrad Autopilot motor brushes

Hi all,

My autopilot pump is now working intermittently. It would work when you first take the boat out, but after a varying period of time it stops working.

I checked the brushes today, and the brushes are worn down from 18 mm long, to about 12/13 mm.
I'm no expert on brushes - but is this the likely source of the problem? (I'm in the process of ordering new brushes)

Thanks,

Gary

12-13 mm long brushes shouldn't be a problem.

Clean the crud out from the gaps between the commutator blocks. That's what messes up my rpu 160.

Abbor - thanks for letting me know the brushes should be fine for now.

Corndog/Abbor - do you have to disassemble the unit to get at the commutator blocks? (removing hydraulics hoses, etc?)

Just take the back bearing cap off the motor. Two screws. No need to disturb hydraulics. That's for the 160, I think the 80 is basically the same.
