Thanks Airbus, What would be the advantage of running the ap44 vs controlling it from my current evo2's?

1st how many steering rams do you have and what is the capacity?

AP44 is the newer version of the 2403vrf. The 44 is N2K now and not simnet, plus a color screen with dial.

If you have EVO2 you don't necessarily need the control head you can control the AP from the MFD. I personally like having all separate components in case a MFD goes out.

I have 2 sea star HC5358 rams, capacity is 8.3, so I guess the capacity is 16.6?

Outboard/Stern Drive with Hydraulic Steering
Hydraulic cylinder < 15 cubic in or 250cc RPU80 NAC-2
Hydraulic cylinder(s) 10-33 cubic in or 160-550cc RPU160 NAC-3
Hydraulic cylinder(s) 17-58 cubic in or 290-960cc RPU300 NAC-3

The above is from the Simrad website. Since you have 2 rams with capacity of 16.6 + it looks like you should go with a NAC-3 and an RPU-160 pump. If you only had 1 ram you could probably use the NAC2 and RPU80. I have a grady with twins but only 1 ram and the AP2403VRF with no issues.

I had two hc5358 cylinders on my twin df300 dukes and the rpu80 pump did just fine..

If you are on a budget the ap2403vrf package can be bought around 1800ish if you shop it.. The newer ap44 runs around 3300..

The simnet with link up just fine with a nema 2000 network you just need the simnet to nema adapter cable.

You can run it just fine off the evo plotter but having the separate head unit makes it a simple 2 button press instead of reaching up and manipulating the plotters

I'll second what Airbus posted above. I had no issues with RPU80 pump running 2 rams, and agree about the separate control head.

I appreciate the help guys, I think I'm going to go with the ap2403vrf package. The old autopilot ran on the smaller pump without a problem.
