I have always said there is a reason almost all commercial boats use Furuno

I think it is a regional and occupational thing as that is not the case on commercial fishing boats and docks I frequent. The majority are younger, second generation fishermen who embrace new technologies that can increase their productivity and use a wide variety of brands. In the GOM reef and bottom fishing industry where I am at it is all about multifaceted sonar and waypoint/area management.

The Pro's in my area recommend Koden/Sitex, JRC, Furuno, Garmin. Many use PCs with sounder modules as well. To go "Pro" you better be ready to break out your wallet though as the units they are using for the most part are not in the Bass Pro catalog.

I have been fortunate enough to have visited your hometown, beautiful to say the least!
Will you be the only one using the electronics or will your family also be using them? I ask this as interface and intuitiveness should be a large part in the decision making process. God forbid something happen to one of us and we are the only one that knows how to operate the electronics.
Will you be tuna fishing?

Thanks. We love our area

Just me using the electronics

Tuna fishing 1 to 5 days a year so not going to allow this to influence the package as long as I have a fish finder.

The New Evo3 Simrad and the Garmin 7600xsv would be good units to start looking at. Are you a touch or buttons kind of guy?

On the Garmin I suggest the GT50 thru hull pair unless you have a spot of less than 5degees deadrise that you could use the single. The Simrad would be the same way.

I have used all the brands and all are simple to use. One is not more simple than another, especially after you have used them a few times. Kind of like an iPhone vs Android vs Window phone. You can see all of them on YouTube videos to see if there is an interface that you like most.

What kind of radar are you looking for? What type of ranges are do you generally operate in?

Personally I became a Furuno fan because their main advantage is that they are the most stable and less prone to the constant "update" game. Furuno also supports their stuff for long periods of time and customer service is second to none. I have more confidence that I can trust my stuff day in and day out.

Thinking a dome radar. Don't need to see birds or have huge range. If it wasn't a big price diff I would go open array
