Default JL Audio or MB Quarts Speakers

Just wondering where you guys think would be the best on line store to buy either one of these speakers and which brand in the 6.5 Round do you think is best?

JL does not have a 6.5 round right now. I think the only thing they offer is a 7.7" component set. MB quart has a 6.5" that is supposed to be good (but not as good as JL). I hear that Aquatics and Infinity are not bad. Pioneers seem to be well regarded in terms of price.

Ask Glen E, he had MB Quarts and replaced them with JL Audio. He would be the best one to answer your question.

In the past week I ahve converted to JL throughout the whole boat. I have had the following speakers - JBL, infinity, and MB quart - each better than the others.. all hooked to a Calrion 4 ch amp. Excellent sound.

Then came JL - everything about them is better quality, down to the allen head screws that you use to install them. Get the JL's - they are head and shoulders above - even if you power them with something else...although their single amp without the sub amp was better than the clarion...and Mike @ SW FL sells them and stays with you during the install...

I shoulda done this along time ago insteada screwing around with ebay stuff...
before:

the 6 ch amp and subwoofer amp:

the aft group:

How well do you think the JL s will hold up to the saltwater spray of a center console? I think the JL s are new to the marine market. How about the warranty

waranty is 1 year and if you get your hands on a JL , you will see it will hold up better than anything I have had before....They are standard on SeaVee's and many owners reporting no problems on them....

I know this is an old thread but it is right in line with what I am going through right now with the marine stereo search.....

To Glen E.......First of all congratulations on your top notch installation!

The many threads that I have read regarding JL have put me on the doorstep of buying their 4 or 6 channel amp and 2 sets of speakers for my new boat (new to me anyway). The main question I have is how did you get the knowledge on how to wire it all up in a way that was efficient in terms of signal loss and how did you get a clean power source as well as, a good ground on your boat. I've got a 1990 Wellcraft Coastal 26 and although it has a cabin mounted fuse box with a couple blanks in it; I am not sure the best way to run power and ground to it so that I get all the clean sound that I can from the amp. Did you find a source to buy a good amp wiring kit or did you just buy the pieces and put together your own kit? I do not have the cake right now to have a professional installer to do the work but I definitely want the best install I can get and am willing to take several weekends to achieve that goal. When I was a little younger...ok, alot younger, I would install car stereos in my own cars and help friends do the same....I feel I have a good basic understanding of the task but I need all the input I can get....Any hints? How about things like what wire gauge should I use for amp power, speakers etc? Do I need special speaker wire to combat the humidity of the boating environment? I use a 100% oxygen free high end copper for my home speakers but some of the threads here have totally different suggestions. Part of my problem is that I am in Maryland and all the JL Audio dealers have to order the Marine Line due to the shorter boating season and limited interest in the area....................
Any constructive input would be appreciated.....

Oh by the way I have not purchased the head unit yet but I am highly considering the Clarion CMD5 due to some of the web based accolades that I have been reading........Input on the head unit is welcome as well....I can mount that in the cabin if needed and run a remote control at helm if that leads me to a better unit that does not have a waterproof shell.

The MD Quarts are good speakers, but they seem to turn yellow very fast in the sunlight. JL.. say no more. Ask your dealer to order them for you.

Ah, now I see what they mean when they say "head unit". (smile)

Hope all those switches are "splashproof"....
