Default Which Garmin MFDs?

Looking for a front and rear station MFD. Costs are adding up, so need to be realistic. We do a little bit of bottom fishing in the 120'- 800' range. Mostly fishing albacore in 3,000'+ and some trolling for salmon in 40'-350'.

Was considering a 7610xsv up front and 7608 in the rear. Then I would Wifi my IPad to the 7608 and use it up front too. GT51M-TM transducer. Will also be adding the Garmin autopilot and would love to simply control it from either MFD rather than needing a GHC20 AP control unit (is that even possible?). Budget is leading to not having the coin for the rear MFD. So, looking for options.

I'm reading about the new 1022xsv / 1042xsv and 722 / 742. Going from a 7608 to a 722 seems likes a decent savings. I assume it'll network to the 7610xsv and show everything (sonar too) that the 7610xsv would. But, if I can save even more cash and do a 1022xsv or 1042xsv instead of the 7610xsv, I'm saving more cash. Touch screen isn't much of selling point for me. I'm not clear on what the other differences are between the 7610xsv and 10#2xsv.

Would love some input here.

Here's some new boat porn. Stripper pole is questionable

Nice boat...thanks for posting the images..

In addition to the GT51-Tm......you might also consider adding a SS175 thru hull.

How about a 1040xs in back? I use it networked with a 7610xsv in front and have no regrets. Kind of nice to have buttons in back so guests have to purposely push buttons to change settings.

I believe you can share everything to most other garmin MFD's from the 7610 if they have a Garmin marine network port - including sonar. That means your rear unit doesnt need to be an XSV model.

I would ask Gil about specific options to be sure it will work ahead of ordering and/or call Garmin Monday and ask.

Call Dave at J and G.

You can engage the AP from the MFD, but will need the contoller for steering options. Your going to want the wireless remote for running the deck and the boat at the same time.

Gills suggestion is right on, SS175-C-H or HW

Correct...

For example: a 7610xsv can share all info with a 7608 chart plotter via the Garmin Network.

And....something for the OP to ponder......considering the overall cost of the boat..going to a 7608xsv and then having redundancy in the sonar department is a postive.
