Default connecting virb to garmin 8212

Recently purchased one of the closeout special 8212's, and was thinking about getting a virb to use on the boat. I see that they support wireless connectivity between the cameras and the 8212, but how reliable/fast is that connection for video? Do I need a wired connection for optimal performance?

Thanks!

You will need the Garmin WiFi kit, it works fine with the VIRB. That's the Garmin correct method of integration, not hard wire etc. it is fast enough to work as designed and reliable to work regularly.

Distance and WiFi signal quality between camera and chartplotter is dependent on many factors of your boat and environment. The system works great with the VIRB cameras in line of site and even with them mounted in engine room on larger boats (+60ft). Your results may vary.
