Default Relay needed in LED wiring circuit?

Replacing my old halogen spreader lights and bought some nice new 12w LED floods. The lights came with a wiring harness that includes a small switch and a relay. Wasn't planning to use the harness as I'll use tinned duplex wire and a carling or condura style switch from a blue seas fuse block in my e-box.

Not familiar with using a relay in this circuit and from what I read it sounds like this would be required in a high amp circuit to protect the switch and wire. Since I'm 12v with 12 watts I'm only drawing 1 amp so am I good without a relay in this circuit? I get pretty paranoid about electrical on the boat so want to make sure I am not missing something. Thanks!

I don't see the point of a relay - the standard Carling switches are rated 20 amps at 4-14 VDC

The harness and relay are for installation in a vehicle. They try and keep all current carrying wiring in the engine bay and only bring wires through the firewall that switch relays and carry very little current.
