Default HI All,My First Post,and It's about Mounting a PM111LM Transducer

I have an 22ft Alloy Boat that I want to fit a PM 111LM XDucer to,

The dead rise is 20%

Firstly is it Possible ? and if so how far below the hull would it have to be ? and would it have to have some sort of fairing in front to stop the air bubbles ?

Cheers ;?

A CM 111 (also known as a PM) is a pocket mount would require you to cut thru your hull..and requires a flat area to do so.

below is a similar pocket mount on an glass hull.

Images from a THT members pocket mount install...

So what you are saying is, you cannot fit it to a hull with a 20% dead rise, and have it sitting lower on the high side,to keep it parallel with the bottom.
Cheers

For pocket / keel mounting of the PM 111 ...you need to mount it in an area of 0 deadrise for optimum results....I do not see that capability with your hull.

From Airmar:

Choose a Location
• Where the hull is flat or nearly flat, so the transducer beam will
be aimed straight down.

Bottom line is, that transducer is not a good choice for your boat.

So How about replacing some of the alloy hull with 1/2 inch Acetal and using a shoot through say a R599C-LM

If you're going to cut a hole in the hull, why not a regular thru-hull? It will work better than any shoot-thu hull and you wont have to worry about potential bonding issues to the aluminum.

What MFD do you have? Where do you fish, how deep, what for? Do you care about sidescan? Bottom detail? Budget? Are you also going to have a transom mount ducer - which one?

Need lots more info - then ask semper for the best answer

The reason I posted this is to get Expert Opinions Like Semperfifishing and all the Other Experts on the Marine Forum

You can Probably Tell by what I am asking, is I have the necessary equipment to drive an XD
of THAT size and the funds.
The Reason I cannot put a large protruding XD is I haven't got the Trailer Clearance,
So the original question I need a Pocket Mount, and If it will work fitted to a welded pocket in the hull bottom, but that means it would have to be fitted on a angle so it is parallel to the ocean floor, and would it still work like that because of the bubbles etc.

You still need to give Gil - or anyone else - more information. There is no ONE transducer that does all things for all people all the time. The more info you give, the better answers you will get.

Based on what you have said so far, I have no clue what to recommend. Partly because I have no idea what you want that transducer to do for you and partly because Im no expert on all the various thru-hull options.

If you had a glass hull then the R111C or R599C would be a good choice with the GSD-26.

But being you have an alloy.....then the modification procedure you are referring to is out of my level of experience...and would require thoughtful fabrication.

There was a post similar to this just a short time ago. What you need is a custom made transducer made out of aluminum or a plastic housing, with the piezo titled inside to match your deadrise. Plus you would still have to make a pocket for the transducer to fit inside. It can be done Its a ton of fabricating.

I've got a CM599LHW fitted to my ally trailer boat, its not a cheap exercise but can be done! Pm me your phone number and I can have a chat to you.
