Default Humminbirds New MEGA

Sharing a few images I made out of PC using the new Humminbird MEGA SI. It was a little bouncy the one day I was out. While these were made during development they are pretty revealing.

I hope this motivates Garmin to up their SI game. They are 'adequate' but still way behind the others in detail.

Wow! That looks like it was done by a $50k Klein Side Scan Sonar

In slick calm fresh water I can get incredible detail of sticks, logs and sunken orange barges but never really thought much of it as where I fish offshore there are no such conditions for seeing such. I always thought Garmin's SV is far better than average at depth, speed and sloppy seas but to be honest I haven't had a chance to see the competitors SV side by side.

MEGA, make electronics great again?

On the more serious side, this is great stuff. Well done Humminbird.

Garmin is much better than Humminbird as far as range/depth with sideview, but Humminbird's old SI was already better at fine detail and seeing individual fish. This new Mega is a whole new ballgame.

its simply due to the higher frequency. they are also now chirping side and down. the range for 455 is also now listed as 400ft per side, same as garmin

That's great and all, but do that at deeper than 20-60' and faster than 2mph and then they might be in to something.

Do that at 400' and 40mph and I'll be interested.

The high frequency imaging is very impressive!

Does anyone know why the frequency on one screenshot is 1150-1275 and another is 1200 CHIRP? I thought they'd be the same thing...screenshots taken with two different software versions perhaps??

Any idea of a release date and pricing for the 12 inch helix version and whats the chance of an update for the mega scan to be used on the onix unit.

From the HELIX 12 SI G2N specs ...

Standard Sonar Frequency:
200/83/455/800/1200/50* kHz
(*optional xducer)

And then any of those can CHIRP ...
