Default Tohatsu nmea2000?

I have a 2002 70hp on my boat and love her. Never had a problem. Looking at the new tohatsu's at sydney boat show earlier this year the rep told me there nmea2000 and us garmin displays. That was as much as I got out of his besides when asked about adaptor/ gateway he said with a smart slur. Just plug it in. I haven't been able to find much info and would like to here anyone's experience or what people have heard. I love the tohatsu

If you're looking at the 4 stroke models, they are all Honda under the cowl. So yes, they output NMEA2000 engine data that can be displayed on a suitable model MFD.

You then. have to check that the particular model Garmin has engine data display pages- have a look in the manual.

The following info is from Lowrance but it tells you what cables are required and how the system is set up, and what data the engines output to the network.

So check with the dealer re cost of the interface cable. You will also need a NMEA2000 starter kit that costs about $70 and can be bought from chandleries such as Whitworths.

It may be simplest to get the dealer to install it and set it all up for you when the new engine is being installed.

I had a Tohatsu TLDI injected 2 stroke on my last boat and agree with you, they are great motors. But last time I checked the TLDI's and other smaller Toey 2 strokes (less than about 30hp) don't have NMEA2000.

Thanks moonlighter. Didn't know the 4 strokes. They are using the gmi display I think. Haven't checked but I was under the impression that the new tldi's were nmea2000. I will check
