Default Garmin XS sounder with B164

Anyone using a garmin xs unit with a B164 ducer? I'm currently running a B164/FCV-585 and a chrip 94sv/GT51. The Furuno is getting old and the screen is starting to bubble. I'm pondering a future upgrade with a garmin xs unit and using a mix/match 8-pin cable to connect the B164. I'm loving the features and sonar recording capability of the chirp 94sv so I'm not sure if I want to get another FCV unit. My main concern is the garmin xs performance with the B164. The FCV-585 has been great in deep water (1000') and it's hard to beat for sure. Can I expect similar sounder performance with an XS unit? I'm thinking one of the new 942xs or 1042xs units.

thanks

The 1042 only has a 12 pin jack, so a 12-to-8 adapter would be needed as well as the adapter block

yup, that gives me even more flexibility in case the chirp 94sv goes out I can connect the gt51 to the 12pin. Love the furuno but running 2 garmin units gives me a ton of flexibility and redundancy. Just need them to perform in the deep.

If you go to a 840xs or 1040xs ...which are now $ discounted...you can use the MM cable into the 8 pin port.

Gil that's a possibility but I like the newer units ability to connect a GSD unit is nice in case the xs doesn't have the deep water performance I'm looking for. Still waiting for some feedback using 1kw 50khz traditional ducer.

thanks

The 1kw transducers work well with the built in Sounder of the Garmin XS .
External Sounders do add more flexibility and it's been noted to also have an increase in performance.

I have a b164 connected to a garmin 7610 XSV, I am disappointed with it. The b164 did better with the previously now stolen setup, 7212 with black box.

Now I loose bottom in shallow water, 7' or less and often loose bottom at cruise., I do not do a good job marking fish. I used the MM adaptor. I have learn to deal with it until I can find $$ for new Ducer.

I am not saying you will have same issues, just wanted to put it out there.

Thanks for the info. Wonder if it's settings or something.

Default 840xs b175H

I've had a great experience with my 840xs and b175H which is the 1Kw Chirp transducer marking all kinds of small bottom fish in well over 400 feet. I've never been far enough offshore to lose bottom so I don't know the max depth yet, but I've seen 2400 feet and it still had a solid return at trolling speeds.
