Do you have the gxm52? If yes then the weather input is very useful.

It's kinda like insurance...only if you need it.

I buy the XM marine basic music and offshore weather. It ain't cheap but gives me a different view of the weather than my 24 mile radar. To me, it is worth it, even though I really only have to use it a few times a year.

We went out one day in July and I know for a fact we would have turned around big time had we not had the weather. We'd missed one hell of a day fishing that day. The way the storms were running we knew exactly where to go and we got a little wet but avoided the main parts of the storm. Had an absolute great day on the water and we only saw one other boat that day on the water. Literally everyone else was home and we had the whole gulf to ourselves. We've avoid lots of storms with it. I've gone out before without it, but I don't like it on those days where clouds roll in and develop.

You can always turn it on or off the months you are using it as well. Is it worth it? Yes but I wish it was $19.99 a month instead of the $50+.

My cousins came down from Memphis, we had planned the trip for weeks. I'll let the pics do the talking!

Worth its weight in gold. It has got me out of serious trouble numerous times. Especially with the winter and summer fishing I do off the East coast of FL. During winter, you can sneak out ahead of cold fronts and time perfectly as they cross the state. Summer time, we have tons of storms that come in the afternoon and totally cover the inlet. Not to mention our trips to the Bahamas with limited wifi. I just upgrade to the master mariner for those trips and I can be over in the Abacos and plan me entire trip back based on sea conditions and radar.

The weather on the screen is nice to have in the summer. But dealing with their customer service is like have a couple of long nagging root canals.

I think only real thing that the $55 package includes over $30 one is offshore SST. (Other than some predictions (e.g., wave heights ) a little further into the future (48 hrs as opposed to 3). You can get hiltons or RipCharts for less than that $25 / mo. difference.

Yes but if you overnight offshore or for longer trips 3hr forecast is useless.

I find XM very helpful in dodging the thunderstorm cells, that being said, I've never had radar so I don't know how to compare them...

The only beef I have is the cost of the new Garmin XM antenna....there's just no good explanation for almost $600!
