Default Sturdy Marine Speakers

My Sea Hunt came with 6 JBL Marine Series MS 6520 speakers. 4 of them are on the bottom near the none skid. All was well until I landed a Mahi that thrashed on the deck of the boat and broke the plastic honey comb grill of the speaker. Then few days ago the cooler skid on the deck and broke another speaker grill.
Unfortunately the tweeter is right in the fragile plastic grill so you cant just replace the grill itself.

Can someone recommend some speakers that will withstand the day to day abuse?

Metal grill speakers can do better than some of the plastic ones. Poly planar makes some. Fusion also make a great plastic removable grill. Their woofers are made from a different cone material that I find hold up better than others in the UV rays. You can do better for sound though.

Pull those and go wetsounds sw65i model. Very affordable, sound great, and grill is replaceable. As an added deal get the lighted ones and you will have some nice courtesy lights to illuminate those areas.

Wet Sounds SW65's will fit right in there and easily last 10 plus years. They are built to withstand the saltwater environment. Some lesser speakers rapidly decay from the salt and sun.

x3 on the wet sounds. If trying to keep budget down go with the 65 or if you want the best go with the 650. Super easy swap and upgraded sound.

If you aren't planning to run the speakers off an amp, I would go with the SW65i's. They are Wet Sounds entry level 6.5" speaker and designed to be run off a head unit or low RMS amp. The 650's like to have more power running to them.

There are differences. The 650 is a bit more sensitive with a little better sound quality versus the 65i. So you will enjoy a modest improvement even with low HU power. However, there's also a big difference in price that you must justify. The other more substantial difference is in power handling, but without a large external amplifier this offers no benefit.
The 65i is a value speaker. In the context of a full system with several speaker pairs, it allows you to obtain good quality equipment at a fraction of the cost.

I have to say those speakers are in a bad spot. They will always take a beating and get very wet there no matter what speakers you plan on using.

Call Mike at International Marine. I have 4 Wet Sounds 65 (the cheaper ones)... great speakers at a great price IMHO.
