Default Transducer Improvement?

I recently bought an older Sea Ray that came with a Garmin 2006C and what appears to be the sounder GSD module #20. There is an black puck style transducer glued to the inside of the hull. It does not penetrate the hull. It says “Airmar” on it .

Searching some of the boating forums, readers did not favor this Garmin 2006c’s fish finder’s capabilities. They indicated that the 2006c was one of Garmin’s first attempt to combine a GPS plotter with a sounder.

The boat also came with a Si-tex CVS 108 and through-hull transducer. The ducer has a shaped exterior body and is glued through and attached to hull.

Both Garmin and Si-tex are duel screen and dual 200/50 kHz.

In addition, because of the fuel tank being in front of the motors, former owner was forced to place transducers mid-ship where he had access. Of course this is not the most desirable place to place transducers. They should be as far to the stern as possible, but gas tank was in the way.

I already had a Garmin 740s that functioned well, but its transducer burned up with boat last spring.

I am trying to see if Airmar makes a better transducer to improve performance on the older 2006c or CVS 108. I could then devote my 740s to plot only. I don’t mind drilling holes in boat as I plan on removing current fuel tank and will have that place reserved for transducers.

I have contacted Airmar, but I also wanted other opinions.

Any suggestions?
