Default Yamaha Gauge Engine Hour Question

It's my understanding that older Yamaha multifunction gauges store engine hours at the gauge; in other words if you connect an older gauge with 100 hours recorded to a different motor that has 200 hours - it will still read 100 hours.

Do the newer Yamaha gauges read directly from the motor to which they are connected? So if I buy a brand new gauge and connect it to the 100 hour motor in my example... it will immediately read 100 hours?

Thanks-

Some of the older Yamaha multifunction gauges stored what is hoped to be engine run time in the gauge. Actually, they are gauge hours. The latest Yamaha multifunction tachometer does the exact same thing. You move the gauge to a brand new motor and it will read whatever it read before it was moved.

Yamaha now makes some gauges/displays that receive engine hours from the motor and display those hours on the gauge/display. These gauges/displays only work with certain Yamaha models.

The answer to your question depends upon the model of your motor and the type of gauge that you install.
