Default Simrad Warranty Replacement

I spoke to Simrad tech and was advised that I could send in my NSS9 EVO2 for a warranty replacement at no charge or I could upgrade to the NSS12 EVO2 for $750. I chose to go with the NSS12. Well I figured I would call with credit card info and be billed for the $750 but once on the phone, I was told I would be charged over $1200 for the NIB replacement unit and then be credited the amount I was charged over $750. It really just didn't add up to me and wanted to see if this is how others went through this same process?

I believe that they are covering them selves to be sure that you send in the 9 inch unit.

Thanks Brian. I inquired about that and asked if I waited til they received my NSS9 if I could then make the $750 upgrade charge to avoid all the extra charges and reimbursements but was told no. Just didn't seem to be as easy to upgrade as one would have thought.

This is how they do it...even if you get express service on a warranty exchange. It's to protect themselves in case you don't send the other one in.

sounds typical. then they refund you...but watch the refund and make sure you get it...they did not refund me and I didn't realize it for a while and then it was a royal pain to get them to follow through w/the refund although eventually they did

Ok...so now I'm at a loss of words. I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and pay the full amount upfront after reading your replies and worry about the refund later. Well....I call back and get someone different on the phone, give him my incident #, and tell him that I'm sending in my defective 9" for a 12". He says ok we will send you a BNIB NSS12 EVO2 for $750 once we receive your old unit. I gave him my credit card info and he says it won't be billed til it is sent out but we have authorized your card for $750. Nothing was ever said about the $1200 and getting a refund so I didn't mention it either. This is the way I would have assumed it should have went to start with. Anyway to reassure myself before posting, I called my credit card company and ask them if there had been any recent activity in the last hour and was told that the only thing showing on my card in thè last hour was an authorization for $750 but it hasn't been charged yet. Anyway.....go figure. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me but figured I'd let y'all know.
