Default Want to run dual units, Garmin 741's or Simrad GO7's??

I'm very familiar with Garmin units and their interface so I'm leaning towards the 741's. Thinking of running dual units over the 1040XS that I already have for functionality and to have a back up. One will run sonar and the other GPS.

I already have a GT23 Garmin transducer which I will use if I go with the 741's. I've been reading about the new Simrad GO7's and have seen nothing but positive comments.

The questions I have are will the sonar on the GO7 be comparable to the 741 with chirp? I'm not interested in side scan. Primarily fishing 100-150ft, 200ft max.

Will I be able to transfer the coordinates from my 1040 to the Simrads fairly easy?

Which would you choose for dual units and why?

I'm curious to know as well....looking forward to some replies. I already have a Garmin 741xs but have been looking at the GO7 XSE with total scan....seems like a nice setup

If you already have the Garmin 741 for gps, look into the Garmin STRIKER 7sv Fishfinder with CHIRP DownVu/SideVu Sonar.

Would the Striker 7SV chirp be the same as the 741xs chirp? Just not touch screen??

This would be a cheaper option if the chirp is the same in both units.

Go with the 741xs, then you can network the 1040xs. You can then share sonar and waypoints.

+1

In your case since you already have a 1040xs and a GT23 transducer it makes more sense to go with a 741xs and network the units.

The Go7 is a feature-rich entry level chartplotter at a very attractive price point, but it is less capable than the 741xs as it lacks radar support among other things .

Does anyone have thoughts on the ease of use (interface) of the 741xs vs the GO7?

I'm looking into them for my father in-law who has used Garmins before. The GO7 looks pretty straightforward, but it's hard to tell with some of these units.

Thanks guys. Just so you are aware I won't be keeping the 1040. I'll be replacing it with 2 units.

From what I can tell the go7's are similar to operate as the Garmins. The learning curve shouldn't be much.

I have two Garmins and a go7 if Czone would be compatible with the 741's I would sell the go7 in a heartbeat

Will have more screen size with two separate units vs the split screen 1040 and for redundancy. If one unit goes out I will have a backup.

I also am in a similar situation. Not going to be running duel units (not enough money), but i'm having a hard time picking between the 741sx and the GO7.

Personal preference mainly, I believe they are just better units. There are also subtle issues that I don't like, for instance, on garmin you get a page dedicated when networked to a fusion headunit on the simrad to get a small unimpressive side bar... but again, mostly preference

I have personally only ever run Humminbird (years ago) and Garmin units. The user interface of the Garmins is very simple to learn. I owned a 741 before the 1040 that I have now have and it was flawless.

I like the Go7 because of the features and it's a newer unit but the maps on the Garmin seem better to me. The 741 also has more options for connectivity. Some people mentioned that the Go7 is newer technology but it's pretty dang similar to the 741 when the updates are considered.

For now I have decided to go back with the 741's vs the Go7's. I just need to find two now. Looking for a couple used units. They're hard to find used though.

Check south Florida's CL for used 741xs units. They had a couple in the $500 range. Good luck.

I do believe I am going to do the same if I can find a 741 for the right price. I went to a west marine and they had both on display and I kept finding myself going back to the garmin. What do you intend to do with your 1040?

I will sell it. It's only 2 months old. If I go with the 741's I will keep the transducer.

If you find some 741s within the next week or two, send me a PM about that 1040. I would like to have a larger screen lol
