Default Monitoring Volvo Engines with Simrad Evo2

I have heard using third party equipment, to monitor engine vitals is not always a good thing? IE, they don't get along?

I am considering using the latest Simrad 2K network gear, to monitor 2 year old Volvo D6's. Oil, water, flow rates, and tank levels.

Has anyone done this? Reliable?

Thanks in advance.

as I understand, the volvo ECU's output j1939 signals for use within their own CanBUS (which volvo call EVC), not NMEA2K...... model dependent, but I think most if not all volvo deisels these days are EVC...... volvo sell an NMEA2K interface box specifically so their system will work with standard NMEA2K systems.

on the other hand, there are third party/aftermarket j1939 to NMEA2K converters, from what I hear some work better than others, sometimes its down to the firmware/software in the displays you choose.

as I understand, the volvo glass cockpit system is garmin gear rebadged. (was trolling the garmin websire recently, some of the display units had fine print to the effect of "this unit is part of the volvo glas cockpit system".

I've really been wanting to ditch my EVC displays but still on the fence. I hear really good stuff about the NMEA interface with 3rd party displays but just can't seem to make the jump. I'd really love to see it in action before investing in something.

Good to know Garmin is in partnership but I'm all SImrad so would be interesting to see how their gear works with the EVC output.

A contact of mine was able to get EVC-B data to his Garmin via a custom y cable he made and a Maretron gateway.

Let me know if you need more info.
