Default SonicHub shuts off when volume is turned up

I have a SonicHub stereo that I am running through my HDS Gen 2 Touch. My speakers are Bazooka 8in White Double Ended Marine Tubbies. When I turn the volume to about 16 or 17 (a little more than 1/2), it shuts down and I have to turn off my electronics switch to reboot. Works fine again unless it goes above that certain volume level. Any thoughts as to the problem? Thanks.

Still in warranty? Call lowrance?
Its been about a year since I sold the boat with sonic hub.
Unplugging the hub from the hds unit briefly usually fixed problems I had.

I updated the software on both SonicHub and HDS a couple of months ago. Had the issue before the updates. The other speakers work at higher volume. I had to use the fade to get enough sound through my other speakers but now can barely hear the Bazookas.

Unsure of the voltage. Boat is a couple of hours away and I did not have a tester when there last. The voltmeter on the HDS unit showed 12.3 or so.

Unit is out of warranty.

Thanks.

Is there an amp on the Bazooka?

No amp other than the SonicHub itself...

I wouldn't expect much out of the Sonic Hub alone. Thats why your not getting much from the Bazooka, it just doesn't have the power to push them

But, would lack of power to push the Bazookas cause the SonicHub to shut down?

I feel it's getting hot, not being there it's my guesstimate as to the problem

Thank you. I'll trouble shoot this weekend and look into an amp if nothing else stands out.

It depends on the how the speakers are connected. The Bazookas are 2 ohms and you mention 'other speakers' the hub is probably shutting down in protection mode.

Bazookas would shut down the system when they were the only speakers. I added some small box speakers to try to get some sound at the helm when running because I could not turn the volume on the Bazookas up enough. Bazookas are wired as either the front or rear speakers. Small box ones are vice versa. If there is something much more technical I should know, I plead ignorance on the subject.

Make sure your power supply is good with a 15 amp capability to start with.
Although the specs of 50 watts PMPO is stated, its the fictitious marketing crap. PMPO 'peak music power out' is the same acronym for 'peak momentary power out' and are both vastly different values to RMS which is an average. I think you just have a mismatch by not using an audio power amp.
The actual power of the Sonic hub is probably about 7 to 10 Watts RMS.
The Bazookas can handle about 150 Watts RMS.
Try a test...
If you disconnect the Bazookas (or fade them out) and just run the box speakers I bet the problem of shutting down at the previous volume level goes away.

Problem does go away when bazookas are faded down. In the market for an amp now. Thanks guys.
