Default Lowrance HDS 8 Gen 2 BR-24 Radar Help

Recently I had noticed that my radar had stopped working on my Lowrance HDS8 Gen 2 unit. The radar is a 3G BR-24 unit. I have tried taking the dome off and checking for water and loose wires with no luck everything checks out perfectly. After some trouble shooting I was realized the radar had gone to a stand by mode. After some trouble shooting I decided to reset the radar and power the radar unit to off then turn back on and miraculously the radar turned back on and seems to work for 5-10 mins then bounces back to stand by mode... I am beyond puzzled at this point and I'm not interested in upgrading electronics as this is most likely the last season for this boat as we're moving up. Any info helps! Thanks in advance!

The female/black cable is only $30. Might be worth your time to replace it. Provided you voltage is constant on the yellow power wire this is one of three possibilities.
chk voltage, replace male Ethernet connector on scanner cable, replace black data cable, send dome to Lowrance and wait wait wait.

Had a problem with my 4G a year or so ago. Replaced the data cable as well as the main cable and bypassed the interconnection module still didn't work. Unit was out of warranty by 3 months. Lowrance said to ship it to them and they ended up sending me another one a week later, no charge.

They did that for me on another piece of equipment a few years ago, I'm stating my current situation. Besides the fact it took almost 2 weeks to get a $100 scanner cable and now my dome has been at lowrance for 3 weeks and no ETA on when my new dome will be shipped. I'm pretty sure it won't be free either but regardless in this case I should have just gone and purchased a new radar, or even better my old one should not have had water in it.

Sorry for this news.... but it's toast. I had the same problem-- had it removed and fully tested but a Lowrance installer/dealer. Early models have the weep-hole in a spot that can be sealed when the unit is mounted directly to a T-Top. Moisture collects inside, causes corrosion on the circuit boards and you get a variable fault. No fixing it economically --- I got a new unit from Lowrance with a $750 discount and free shipping to the dealer with the return of the old one.... not optimal but it was three years old---I guess.......
