Default Lowrance elite 7 CHIRP gold

My trusted Garmin 498 suffered screen failure yesterday. I am assuming that fixing this is not worth the effort on a 10 year old GPS. So I am in the market for a new plotter/ fish finder/ GPS combo., The GPS store in Ocean Isle has the lowrance elite 7 CHIRP gold with transducer for less than $500. Does anyone out there have experience with this, or thoughts on what's best in the under $1000 range. A Garmin 741xs seems nice but will be over 900 bucks and they seem to do about the same thing. I have no experience with Lowrance and am looking for any feedback.
Thanks

I have the elite 5 with the better of the 2 chirp transducers offered. I like it as it will read bottom at 500+ at 30 mph on the transom of a cat. Better than the older unit for sure.

At $500-600, that's a real deal.

Which transducer is that? I use an 83/200 skimmer, and bottom readings are sketchy at best past 350 feet or so. The DSI doesn't work past 150. Sounder works great sub 300 feet though, but the chart plotter function is ridiculously slow, and made getting over structure tough. I now use it to store all my waypoints as to not clutter up my main chart plotter.

Transducer Model W/XD 83/200/455/800 Lowrance part number 000-11655-001

Just leave it on the high frequency setting, put it on manual not auto sensitivity, and place the gain between 55 and 70%.

At 20 mph I can differentiate between bait and target fish up to 400' deep. It will detect bottom up to 1100 feet and show depths at 30 mph, but it will not actually show bottom deeper than 500' at 30 mph in warm saltwater.
