Default Garmin 741xs & Gt20tm t hd-id down view transducer

Hello my friends, needing help again
I have a Garmin 741xs gpsmap a on my boat with a non chirp transducer the basic one, working good but decided to upgrade to a chirp transducer to get the down view capacity. I installed the GT20TM transom mount hd-id 8 pins with down view, did the installation by the book, works fine but can not get the down view. Do l have to install the gcv10 box to get the features or is something I am not doing well with the settings in the 741 xs unit. Please any one knowledgeable with this type of unit help me. Thanks

That unit should be able to display the down view through the 8-pin port without the use of a 12 pin GCV-10 box. Depending on how old the unit is you may need to do a software update, but that unit is definitely able to do traditional and down view with that transducer. Give me a call if you are still having issues after a software update.

I have the same exact combination 741xs/gt20tm. I had both regular and downvu even before the Oct 2015 software upgrade. Assume you're selecting downvu in the sonar screen? The other thing is that you may need to somehow reinstall the transducer in the software? One clue would be on regular sonar screen what transducer does it show (lower lefthand screen)

I had the same unit with the exact same problem. That upgrade killed the downvu.

It appears that 7.1 did the same to my 7610 with the GT20. I had great downvu until the update; I was on the phone with Garmin for an hour yesterday and they determined it is the unit and are shipping me a new one.

As this is becoming a pattern, I'm wondering if they purposely kill the performance on the cheap transducers to get more folks to buy the expensive ones.

I have the same exact unit that I bought last year. When I hope everything all it would not read the down vu transducer I called Garmin they told me to download the update but I have a Mac and does not let you download the update garmin has to send it to you so if you have a Mac I suggest call garmin after I installed the update it worked fine.

Does your 741 have a 12-pin and an 8-pin xducer port (a few were built this way), or just an 8-pin port?
