Default any post to learn from how to understand what i see?

Hi all ,
I have a new HDS7 GEN3 and i would like to read and understand what i see under the boat , how can i understand that what i see is calamari ? or fish ? how do i know how it looks when you see a bait ?

Hi Ben,
Best way in my opinion, is to spend time using your meter and fishing. When you meter something and then catch it you or in the case of calamari, you may be catching fish with bellies full of squid.

Another way to gain knowledge is to search out posts of screen shots. A lot of guys will put a description of what the sonar reading is of.

There should be a "Sonar for Dummies" book...I don't really fish, but do have an interest in interpreting the screen, which admittedly I'm not so good at either, more as a voyeur than an angler.

And, with all the different transducer technologies available, things have changed.

Suggestion: search youtube...95% will be crap, but you will find some gems, too, and visual-learning is key to learning to understand what you're seeing on the screen.
