Default Sitex SP110 vs Raymarine EV100

I am getting ready to buy an autopilot for a 20' fishing boat with a 115hp engine with SeaStar steering. This will be a stand alone system until I can afford to take the next step of installing a new FF/GPS and NMEA 2000 network into the boat. Has anyone used these APs and have any info on any problems they have run into?

I heard that the Raymarines had some problems when they were first released. I was hoping that they had worked out the bugs by now as I am leaning this way.

After Raymarine increased the size of the pump in the EV100 package and improved the software several time EV100 should do a good job for a your application.

A few weeks ago I helped a fishing buddy with planning the installation and participated in the sea test of EV100. Seemed like an easy install and worked as expected.

This is solved since springtime 2014.
I have installed several RM EV100 this year without any trouble.

Really? Hmm just did one on my boat. Not a real happy camper right now. Was my original post but I have to say today one of their techs helped me a bunch. I reserve the rest of the story until the end.................. for now. As for the pilot it has been established that the drive is dead. Stuff happens I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,

I find its hard to tell when they are locked. Back of controller is 3/4 of an inch deep so you either have to drill (hole saw) a 3 5/8 inch hole in your dash or find backing (starboard) that's 3/4 of an inch thick. Problem there is the way they made the unit only #4 screw will fit and they don't come that long. I decided to make the hole and have everything hooked up only to find the pilot does not work. Have tried several combinations of resolve but according to the tech it looks like the drive is not working. My real complaint here is that on last Wednesday at 3 PM Eastern time Raymarines customer service department was closed (even though there recording says they should be open until 5) and they remained closed until Monday Morning. That's 5 days! Almost laughable was sitting on hold for almost an hour listening to a recording that says Mondays are there busiest day so you might have to wait. (especially when they have been closed for 5 days). Now I'm faced with no option except shipping this thing half way around the world to get it fixed. Their forum shows that many have experienced this exact same problem. Anyone?
Well, we can't help till your ready...........

boat
type steering
outboard
DEVIATION
plotter and type of connection

specific problem?

you know the cables are all the way in when you can turn the collar...righty tighty, lefty loosey. --- only a 1/4 turn

as far as mounting the P70(r) AP control head, its designed to retro-fit 18 years of control heads....Raymarine tries to make their stuff backwards compatible.....since they have been around a LONG time. So, drill hole with hole-saw, straighten, drill and screw 4 small screws to set in place. 5-10 Min....piece of cake.--- install kit has waterproof gasket and a template.
