Default Sitex CVS 1410

I'm looking at a boat with a Sitex CVS 1410 bottom machine. I'm not familiar with this model. Is it better than, equal to, or not as good as a Furuno 582L (I'm familiar with this unit).

The Sitex CVS (Colour Video Sounder) is actually made by Koden. A top of the line brand.
The attitude of the Japanese manufacturers has always been to whack it hard with big transmitters firing huge amounts of power into clunky 20% inefficient transducers. The displays are controlled with mechanical switches rather than the membrane type.
Europe manufacturers like Simrad however go for efficient transducers and lightweight transmitters.
Regardless of brand the transducers are the eyes and ears and it is better to go for a cheap sounder with a good transducer. It's akin to connecting Road Runners ACME speakers to a Bose Stereo System....

I don't have any experience with that particular unit but I have an older sitex CVS 106 that has worked for years without any issues. I updated to 2 simrad nss8's a few years ago and decided to also keep the sitex because I liked it so much.

Yes the Sitex CVS 106 is the same as the Koden CVS106. Your model was sold with a fixed frequency transmitter pcb of either 50, 120 or 200Khz

The next model up the CVS108 was 50/200 Dual frequency and was the last CRT screen ever made. After that it was the CVS118 with the first of the flat TFT screens.
You have a collectable item! Transducers still available from Airmar.
