Default Speakers directly to Sonic Hub?

I'm looking to install a sonic hub and 4 - 7.7" JL's. Is it even worth considering going without an amp?

Any of the FUSION 650 or 750 headunits will output 70W x 4 which is already more powerful than a standard output, this would be perfect to power the FUSION 7.7" speakers. It really depends on your placement of the speakers and whether you want to compete with the sound of the outboard (if you have one).

The FUSION 5 channel is a great solution if you want to add some extra power to 4 speakers and even a subwoofer

I run 4 speakers directly off the SonicHub on my 24' Bay Boat - when on plane at speed I do turn it up, but not maxed out..... certainly an amp would push more volume, and likely cleaner at higher volumes - but for my boat/application it works plenty fine for me without additional battery draw, space needed for the amp, heat, etc.

For those who operate solo, or generally with just one other person (any more than that, you can't all agree on the same music anyhow), I like Bluetooth headphones or earbuds instead of running 1000 watts RMS to overcome engine and wind noise. Unless, of course, you're more interested in making a "statement".

Earbuds or noise-excluding headphones give better fidelity and dynamic range at 3 watts than 6 JL speakers with 1000 watts...no comparison.

Plus, you piss nobody off, unless that's part of your agenda. I have yet to find 3 people on a boat that enjoy the same tunes selection anyhow...I got stuck to captively listening to 4 hours of blasting hip-hop/rapper stuff, and had to go home and wash-down an oxycontin with Jose Cuervo and go to bed. Alone, I would be listening to Diana Krall or Nina Simone...big difference for me: relaxation vs. total irritation.

And frankly, a 500 watt sub does not seem to attract fish, either, but maybe ones in bikinis that taste like fish.

I ran a sonic hub directly to 4 X JL 6.5" speakers. I'm not sure what the efficiency i of the 7.7" but the 6.5" were 91db/1w/1m, and they sounded pretty good. I added M200 amp and 8"IB sub later on and that was a huge help. Was the stereo "loud"? Well not really, but it made enough noise for me.

The addition of the M200/Sub meant that the 6.5's didn't have to do any "heavy lifting" so they mids/highs were pretty good.

The 7.7" will give you much better bass response anyway, so you might not need/want a sub.

I would go ahead and give it try, if you need more oomph you can add an amp if you need to? Speakers will make the biggest impact on quality of audio in my mind, if you need more volume you can always add the amp.

Thanks all. I think I may give it a try and add an amp, if not happy. The speakers will be facing down in the hard top.

The fusion head unit will not be an option, as I want to control the stereo through the mfd and save the e-box space to put some dry storage.

Couldn't agree more! I love having everything controlled by the MFD! Less boxes=better!

I only wish the Meteor 300 that I installed on the new boat was as seamless as the sonic hub was on the last boat. You have the better product for sure!
