Default JL marine mx650 or 7.7

I need some speakers. I've got a Fusion head unit ip600. 6 MX650 JL's or 4 7.7 JL's?

Do I need an amp???

Which direction?

Yes you need an amp.

Before I would choose 6 MX-series, I would go 4 M-series.

I started with 4 MX650's, and then added 4 more, but went with M650's. Really like the M's, over the MX's.

Have fun.

if no sub go 7.7's. the 6.5's are no slouch though. especially with a sub in the system.

I'm running 2 6.5's and 2 7.7's on my skiff with a Fusion fm 400. I've been pleased

that price is not hard to find. I personally have used Mike from International Marine, he provides killer prices for both the MX, and the M's.

Whether you select six 6.5" or four 7.7" or a combination of the two, this decision should be determined by a) the boat layout and speaker location availability, b) the listener locations, and c) which occupants or positions may or may not be a priority. If the focal point is the captain, whether you are mostly standing or sitting could impact the choice.
The speakers, the series, the sizes, and the locations, will ultimately dictate the amplifier, the number of channels and the balance of power.

You should only buy JL Audio from an authorized JL Audio dealer.

I bought from a Non authorized JL dealer, saved a bunch of money. If they fail within the warranty period, I guess I'm screwed. I still feel pretty good about all the money I saved.

Ok. Just came from the boat. I'm thinking I have 6 locations I'd like to put the speakers. In the inspection plate holes. I have 2 midship 10 inch outer ring - 8 inch hole where the cap screws in. I have 2 on the transom same size. I have two more in the front - 8" outer ring and 6 inch inner hole where the cap screws in.

I was thinking the 770's in the rear mounted forward, and in the front where my chic likes to ride...and the 650's midship under the gunnel.

Do you know where I can buy trim rings because the holes are bigger than the speakers....and I'm going to need an amp.

Ok. Just looked at the specs and it seems I could probably go with 3 MX770's. I was worried about depth where I was going to mount in gunnel. I had 4" then would but up against fuel line. so if there is a trim ring that would clear.

Can you shoot me a quote on 3 pairs of MX770's, 3 pairs of trim rings, and an amp that would run this off my fusion head unit.

Thanks!

Artic,

Please know I am very conservative and aware of budget. For 7.7 speakers i would go for M series it is well worth the upgrade. For 6.5 the MX are good.

Concerning JL Audio warranties and warnings....
If you buy from a non-authorized dealer you have NO warranty with JL Audio. Period. JL Audio claims it on their site in very clear language. Need more confirmation as to who is and is not a dealer, or clarification on their warranty policy? Call JL Audio direct.
Any service you get from a non-authorized dealer will come solely from that dealer and his supplier who is breaking his JL Audio franchise agreement....but NOT from JL Audio. So now you are dependent on two entities who are doing exactly what JL Audio discourages and even prohibits. You have to wonder why these business entities aren't up front with their non-dealer status and continue to represent a product for which they are not a dealer. One day when a serial number shows up at JL Audio, the supplying dealer, whom you as the consumer are completely unaware of, gets his franchise yanked. Now how will the product get serviced? Typically with these suppliers & non-authorized dealers, the product source is an ever-changing rotation. And service is equally hit and miss.
You know that product that is 30 days out of warranty and the real dealer who is in good standing needs to call in a favor with JL Audio. Normally it flows easy. Forget that type of support, technical, warranty, or otherwise, from a non-authorized dealer.
Then there is the question of do you really save money buying from a non-authorized JL Audio dealer?
No, in reality you do not.
Most, not all, authorized JL Audio dealers comply with JL Audio's stipulation to publish the M.A.P. (Minimum Advertised Price). So when you take a quick comparison you assume that the non-authorized dealer sells for less simply based on what he is listing the product for. Something that the non-authorized dealer capitalizes on. However, the real 'street' price from the authorized JL Audio dealer is typically less. So in reality, you can buy from any number of authorized JL Audio dealers for the exact same price as the unauthorized dealer by simply requesting a price match. Easy. Done. And....you also receive the product application training, knowledge, support, service, and warranty that only an authorized dealer can offer.
Take the above statement to JL Audio. I'm very confident they'll back it up in its entirety.

As mentioned above we will warranty JL products for two years no questions asked. In fact we are in discussions with a third party warranty provider to cover the products beyond the factory warranty at no cost to the consumer (extra years). I will keep you posted on our progress.

If anyone here has ever not had a warranty claim with IM processed and handled 100 preset please let me know. We will handle it without question.

We have elected to go this route due to JL taking 5 to 6 weeks for repairs. We handle repairs an exchanges in 2 days so your boat is up and running ASAP.

I trying to keep the cost down as I've never been a audio system guy. So I'm thinking the mx series will work. Can I order the trim rings on your site?

Order the speakers from the site and email for the rings as they are custom.
