Default Simple Connection of Two Simrad NSS Units

I searched around, but am not 100% clear on connecting two NSS units, and the missed features by using only the network connection...

I just ordered an NSS7 to complement my NSS8, and see where the two units can be interfaced by simply connecting the two together via the network ports using a Lowrance/Simrad ethernet cable. I'm assuming this will allow the units to share the sounder, and also share the Navionics card in the NSS8.

I realize that if I decide at some point to connect an engine interface cable to the system, I'll need to build a NMEA 2000 network, but will I be missing any features or functionality by not creating the network?

no you will not miss anything by not addins nmea2000 at this time

Simrad ethernet cable is the easiest method of sharing

you can run both as i am doing on a big setup

ethernet between 2 nss12s, 4g and chirp, along with nmea 2000 going to both units as well and to an autopilot and regular ducer.

Go to the Simrad site and download the install manual. Not difficult to set up.
